Millennium Stein As a tribute to the new Millennium, Westerwald Team GmbH of Germany has created a truly exceptional commemorative stein combining originality in design with time honored traditional handcraftsmanship. The stein is handcast from finest stoneware. At the top of the stein, a relief ribbon wraps several times around the entire circumference. This ribbon spirals, overlaps and is decorated with over 100 numbers displaying sequences of year-dates during the past 2000 year history. Below this ribbon, is the front subject panel featuring a handpainted-raised relief map of the Western Hemisphere. The right side of the map features the most recent year dates in ascending order, each date larger than the previous one. The year 1999 is handpainted and fired in silver-leaf. The year 2000 is the most dominant element on the front of this stein. Each of the 4 numbers is separately sculpted in exaggerated relief, then handpainted and fired with gold leaf. Below the year 2000 is a cast pewter ribbon with incised Millennium Text. The side panels of the Millennium Stein list the past 100-year dates in crimson red highlights. Following each date is a newspaper headline statement of the most important and historically significant event occurring that year, from an American perspective. Handpainted laurel wreaths provide the border decorations between the 3 main panels of the stein. The handle has been sculpted in a 3-dimensional figural 2000 date, with the 2 being the primary shape of the handle and the 000 appearing at the base. The steins heavy gauge domed pewter lid is sculpted with a raised relief celestial pattern and then antiqued. The thumblift is dish shaped and adorned with a relief sun and moon pattern, and then accented with gold leaf. In front of the thumblift is a pewter miniature figuring of the planet Earth in precise detail. It is mounted on a revolving axis, so one can spin it with their thumb! This Earth globe has been selectively plated with gold oceans and contrasting silver continents. A pewter figurine of Galileo with telescope is mounted on the lid. This version of the stein is produced in a restricted worldwide edition limit if only 2,000 English text pieces! Each stein features its own individual number on the bottom. The certificate and the individual number on the steins bottom guarantee the strict adherence to the worldwide limitation. Made in Germany. - C6348 - $199.00
